Matthew Girard

Managing Director

Matthew Girard, provides valuation consulting services as a member of WTAS’ East Coast Valuation Services Group. His professional career spans over 14 years of valuation and business experience. Before joining WTAS, Matthew was a valuation consultant with several firms, including a specialized financial advisory firm he co-founded and an international professional services firm. Before that he was an investment consultant with the Vanguard Group, and an analyst at an investment bank specializing in acquiring companies out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Matthew has worked on over 1,000 business and intangible asset valuations, having valued domestic and multinational businesses in many fields. He has made business valuations for:

  • Purchase-price allocations (FAS 141)
  • Goodwill impairment testing (FAS 142, FAS 144)
  • Fair value calculations (FAS 157)
  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Non-compete agreements (IRC Sec. 280G)
  • Option valuations (IRC Sec. 409A, FAS 123)
  • Federal and international tax planning/documentation
  • Business and strategic planning

Specific industries within which Matthew has worked include financial services, metals, human capital outsourcing, real estate, manufacturing, distribution and retailing.

Matthew has qualified as an expert witness in matters regarding business valuations and he frequently participates in arbitration proceedings and settlement negotiations between parties.

Matthew is a Chartered Financial Analyst as recognized by the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute, and he has completed the courses required for the American Society of Appraisers’ Business Valuation designation.
